You are invited to a presentation about the “home children” from the United Kingdom. They were known as street waifs, under the care of Dr. Thomas J. Barnardo’s orphanage. He organized their journey to start a new life in Canada, working on farms, as labourers or domestics. From 1870 – 1939 over 30,000 immigrated here. Today, there are many descendants of these children across our great country. Hannah (Annie) Pilkey was the child who became the mother of my husband Eric. Please come and invite anyone you know who is a descendant of these children, or simply loves Canadian history.
